About the Event

This ticket includes a drink, bites and bowls and there will be a raffle and games on the night!

All proceeds of the ticket money goes to Refugee Women Connect who are MJLD's chosen charity for 2021/2022.

At Refugee Women Connect, they work to build a safe life in the UK for all women refugees, asylum seekers and survivors of human trafficking.

Their service users come from all over the world and from all walks of life; the thing that they have in common is that they have come to the UK fleeing situations of conflict, persecution, and abuse, and many continue to face hardship and dis- crimination within the UK. The past few years in particular have exacerbated the situation of many of their service users; throughout lockdown, three quarters of asylum-seeking women went hungry or were unable to feed their children, a fifth were made homeless, and 85% said their mental health had worsened due to isolation and being cut off from vital support services. Most recently, they have welcomed many women and families who have evacuated Afghanistan, and the demand for their services in growing all the time.

They provide practical support for women and their families, including help navigating the asylum-seeking process, support with accommodation and housing, English language support, and school access for children. They also provide expert bespoke mental health support for women who are recovering from trauma, including one-to-one mental health support and emergency check-ins with vulnerable women. They also provide group wellbeing sessions to combat isolation and loneliness, and to help women build friendships and community; these include our therapeutic art group, the RWC choir, sports teams, and yoga classes.

With your help, they can continue our vitally important work in the community and support even more women and families across Merseyside:

  • A donation of £10 could provide nappies for a refugee baby for one week,
  • A donation of £25 could provide a one-to-one information session, with an interpreter, to help an asylum seeking woman understand her rights and entitlements and pre- pare for her Home Office interview,
  • A donation of £100 could provide one-to-one mental health support for a whole month for a woman recovering from trauma.
