Routes into Law: CILEx Apprentice

I started at Bell Lamb and Joynson in 2007 on an apprentice scheme. Once I had completed my apprenticeship I was promoted to the family team and it was here that I developed my role and underwent in house training. I worked at BLJ until September 2015. I worked at Morecrofts and Canter Levin and Berg before returning to Bell Lamb and Joynson in September 2020.

I decided in 2020 (after 8 years of working in family law!) that I wanted to study. I therefore enrolled onto the CILEx course with the Law Academy. The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) is known as the professional association for over 20,000 chartered legal executive lawyers, paralegals and other legal practitioners in England and wales. They offer access to an flexible career in law and work closely with the government and Ministry of Justice. They offer a route into a legal career and becoming a qualified lawyer without the requirement of a law degree.

I have opted to undertake my course part-time, this means that I work full-time and study outside of working hours. This has worked for me as its enabled me to carry on working and developing whilst studying. I attend two lectures per week for 2 hours each as I am taking the full CILEx route, which comprises our Level 3 qualification and then I will progress to Level 6 qualification, which is set and assessed at honours degree level.

I have recently completed my exams which I found challenging to fit in revision around work and social aspects of my life but I have now found a good balance and I cant wait to start my next term! I am due to complete my course in 2022.
